Dean Bradshaw
Born in Southern California, Dean Bradshaw won a scholarship to study at the Art Center in Los Angeles but chose the medical school route at UCLA instead. After working his way through school, Dean decided to move to Utah where he began making artistic handmade & artistically painted furniture as well as painting portraits for prominent families. After developing his successful furniture business, Dean realized his heart was in fine art and return to full-time painting.
“The pallet knife makes my work extremely textural and it keeps me from focusing too much on detail. For me, it becomes a much more spontaneous way of painting.”
The Utah-based artist works in oil with a palette knife to render compelling landscapes. Known for his thick textures and vibrant hues, Bradshaw makes unexpected color combinations, often heightening them, yet remaining somewhat true to nature. In his painting, Bradshaw seeks to achieve abstract quality using recognizable shapes.
“When I choose a great scene for a painting, it’s because of strong design elements, dramatic lighting and depth. I like to paint deep aspen interiors, because the range of subtle colors makes an overall unified harmonious painting.”
